Meg’s Rainbow

I've promised to talk more about the End of Life Care that I provided for my Meg and so many of you have asked more about it.  In the previous blog, I talked about the essential oils and flower essences I used.  They really were invaluable in helping her and us deal with the inevitable end, but there are some other things I did that were deeply supportive and provided all of us with a different perspective.

I offered Meg Reiki every chance I had.  I gave Reiki to her food and water and did sessions directly on her as often as I could. There were nights where she could not settle down to sleep – and I'd start with a Reiki session and soon she have calm breathing and when into a peaceful sleep. She went through times where she could not keep her food down and her tummy was quite upset.  I used the Digestive Woes flower essence and the Di-Gize essential oil and these helped her a lot.  I would also sit in the room with all the dogs and send out Reiki to the whole group. There was certainly some stress and turmoil in the group.

I have recently been taking courses on Shamanic Healing with Carla Meeske.  We have learned many, many things over the past several months, but most recently, we learned some techniques that help an animal (and their person) prepare for crossing over and the change in relationship that follows.  In one of these techniques, you use the Shamanic Journey to meet up with the Spirit Tribe of the animal you are working with. A Spirit Tribe holds the memories, purpose and identity of the soul energy of the animal. When connecting to this Tribe though a Shamanic journey, I have learned profound things about that animal I'm journeying for.  I have learned the ancestry purpose of this group, how and why this individual came into our world and how they'll be welcomed home when the journey that put them here with us is over. Specifically for my Meg, I asked for her Spirit Tribe's help in calling her home.  Her body was clearly finished with it's existence in this world but her soul was still connected here.  She needed help in being "called home" and I needed to be at peace with that.  During the Shamanic journey to connect with her Spirit Tribe and able to meet the tribal leaders and other group members.  I was shown how she fit into this group and told how she would be welcomed back when this journey was complete.  This type of Shamanic journey can also be done after the animal has crossed and has been very comforting to those of us who are left behind – wondering where our animal friend's spirit or soul has gone.

Part of the journey I did for Meg, I asked for her spirit tribe to call her home.  In doing this, they sent a beautiful, sparkling emerald green beam in the sky to connect to her heart. The imagery was breath taking. It was like a homing beacon sent to call her back.

After I did this journey (and several others), I felt strong enough to release Meg from this world.  She also felt the pull into the spirit world and was no longer holding back.

(I did a similar journey for a friend's dog who was ready to cross over.  I connected to his Spirit Tribe and asked for support for him and his person. After he crossed over, I got an email from my friend. She said she had never had such a sense of peace at a dogs passing before.  Her grief period was not as long and she was able to enjoy reliving the memories of their life together with joy.)

As for Meg, I surrounded her with crystals which provided general comfort as well as pain relief.  I used the rose quartz, amethyst and a lovely piece of jasper. These healing friends provided comfort and support to her until the very end.

Even with all of this work, I was still struggling a bit with letting go.  I asked my guides and hers to provide me with a sign that it was her time to pass.  The last morning we spent together, our whole family went outside early in the morning. It was a beautiful morning and all the other dogs were enjoying the nice weather. As we looked up to the sky, we were greeted by a beautiful, full-sky, vibrant rainbow.  It was to the west of our house (not a normal direction they are seen). It was huge and reached from horizon to horizon.  For a few minutes, there was even a double rainbow.  This magical site, remained vibrant in the sky for quite some time.  Her spirit tribe was calling her home with their emerald beam of light in the sky that was part of the rainbow. We shot a brief video of the rainbow that morning that concludes with a spectacular sunrise. The video does not do the vibrancy justice but click here to see it. Meg's Rainbow

Upon many hours of reflection, I am continually amazed at the effect Meg had on our lives.  She changed us in ways that are incomprehensible at times yet perfectly logical.  I will be forever indebted to my friend Meg for agreeing to share her life here with us and I know I will continue to discover how she changed my path and made my purpose more clear.  But for now, I continue to relive the many, many wonderful memories we shared.

We also did a video tribute to the beautiful Meg – such a special being.  You can see it by clicking here. Meg's Tribute

I offer private Shamanic healing sessions for people and their animals. Contact me to discuss how these amazing sessions can help you and your animal. A group led by Carla Meeske will be doing a Healing Circle on Monday, August 29th. Click here to read more about this on-line event.
