Here we are at the end of January 2014. In Wisconsin, the weather is ushering out the first month just as it was ushered in – blowing, drifting snow. Ah, such is winter. But the end of January means the beginning of February. Yay! In this awesome little month, we celebrate Ground Hog Day, the Superbowl, National Condom day (yes, it’s on the 14th), Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, Bob Marley Day (celebrated in Jamaica), Winter Olympics, Random Acts of Kindness Day, Cherry Pie Day (yum), Darwin Day and World Thinking Day. It is also the Month of Black History, National Children’s Dental Health month, and my favorite, the American Heart Month! As we enter in to February, I’ll be sharing some ways to support your heart; not just your physical heart, but your emotional and energetic heart too.
Lovingly caring for your heart is so very important. Your heart helps you feel, heal and it reveals so much about your character. In Ayurveda and Oriental medicine, the heart, not the brain, is considered the seat of consciousness. In Ayurveda, it is the site of “Atman” or the true, Divine Self.
To get you ready for the month, you get a sneak-preview today and it is a really simple “to do.” A few years ago, a dear friend took me to a daylong workshop on Jin Shin Jyutsu for people and animals. I learned all about this ancient healing art where you use hand positions to release tensions held in the body. Our animal companions that were active participants in the class, had a great time and were amazingly relaxed throughout the whole day. The technique I’m going to share with you today can be done on animals, but this video shows you how to do it on yourself. When ever you are feeling down and need a little pick me up, do this “Heart Hug” and feel the love flow to your heart. You are your own best friend so treat yourself that way. {{HUG}}
Wasn’t that nice? If you want to know how to do it on animals, you can click here. This video is a bit longer and shows more techniques, but the the “Heart Hug” is the first one she shows you. My dogs LOVE it.
So, stay tuned and be ready for more ways to nourish your heart!
